[sticky] Where we are from
12 years agoWelcome to our little corner of the net Aries.
FS is Canadian hey?
What were the names of the original 3 then ?
12 years agoheh, just did a Google on FS the other day and am blown away by how much time people have put into maintaining it. Really blew my mind.
Original effort was myself (Ben A.K.A Aries, Jeff AKA Cadmus, and Matt (can’t remember his call sign I’ll have to email him). Another Matt, AKA Tuna, came onboard right after. We played a BBS run XvsT conquest system called the Rim for a while which was what FS was started for. Then we all went off to university and that was that (or so I thought).
Simply impressive effort by everyone who’s contributed to building FS into what it’s become. I've been sending links to the other guys and they're pretty much incredulous. Keep in mind the last time we really saw the site it was even less advanced then what’s in the history section of the .COM site. The creed is still the same which I found entertaining (having written it in 1996/97, whenever XvsT hit shelves). Kudos
12 years agoOMG, we're Canadian!?!?!
Good to hear from you, Aries. My knowledge of FS history doesn't got much further back to Jumpgate, which is where I think it really took off, but I do recall it was originally started as an X-Wing vs TIE fighter squad.
Funnily enough, I've played X-Wing, TIE Fighter and X-Wing Alliance but never XvsT. Odd that.
*Goes away shaking his head*
*Comes back to say*
Can we expect to see you in Jumpgate Evolution?
12 years agoXvT was a bit before UK broadband at reasonable prices. Back then, we'd drag PCs round to mates houses to play.
Everyone jumping onto the latest first person shooter (Doom, Duke, QTest) would be fair game, as the keys and controls are identical, but our XvT games were a bit of a disaster as half the players didn't know how to fly the respective ships because they didn't own the game. In a bid to make the games fair, I'd fly a TF, with opponents in AWings and XWings and still win a 3 vs 1 game. Playing over the internet would've been great, but not possible at the time.
12 years agoHey Aries, I only joined during the JumpGate times, but I never guessed I could still learn new things about our little squad - great to hear from you!
